Chapter 454

Where the SUN 'n FUN began and lives on today!

Welcome to SUN 'n FUN Chapter 454 (EAA)

SUN 'n FUN Chapter 454 (EAA), Inc. in Lakeland, Florida was the originator and founding organization of the annual fly-in now known as SUN 'n FUN.  In 1974, Chapter 454 decided to hold a fly-in at the Lakeland Airport for sport aviation enthusiasts.  With the help of the Southeastern Sport Aviation Council and the Florida Sport Antique and Classic Aircraft Association, the first weekend fly-in, called the Mid-Winter Sun 'n Fun, was held in January 1975 at the then named Lakeland Municipal Airport.  From that first Chapter sponsored fly-in of almost 2000 participants and 365 aircraft, SUN 'n FUN has grown into the nation's second largest aviation gathering.  Click here to browse through the original Sun 'n Fun brochure.

Today, Chapter 454 is still active at the Lakeland Linder Regional Airport (KLAL).   Meetings and most events are held at the EAA Warbirds of America Building on the Sun-N-Fun Campus, Lakeland FL.

The local aviation enthusiasts who formed SUN 'n FUN Chapter 454 (EAA), 1973 wanted to:

  • Promote and encourage an atmosphere where all are welcome to become a part of the world of recreational aviation.
  • Encourage, aid and engage in the study for improvement, safety and a better understanding of aviation and the science of aeronautics.
  • Promote a positive, productive and cooperative relationship between the Chapter and those agencies, such as; EAA, FAA, SUN 'n FUN that provides educational programs, services and facilities to the benefit of everyone interested in aviation.
  • Promote, encourage and facilitate membership in the EAA, along with its missions, goals and objectives.
  • To remain a non-profit, fun organization with a volunteer spirit.

Getting together at Chapter events is a great way to share some humor, learn new things, do some mentoring, ask some questions, build camaraderie within the Chapter, and build your contact list of people who are experts in areas of interest to you.

Some of our members come from the civilian, military, and airline pilot ranks. We have members who are A&P mechanics, repairmen, technical counselors, flight advisors, and certificated flight instructors. Others are new student, private and sport GA pilots.  So, although we all have varying backgrounds, we share these things in common:  A joy of aviation and the strong desire to to share ideas, exchange information, encourage safety, serve the local aviation community.  So, whether you fly, build, restore or simply enjoy airplanes and aviation, you're welcome to attend our meetings and events as our guest.
